Appearance: Xehanort has brown eyes and pale gray hair that extends to a few inches beneath his shoulders; long bangs hanging straight down frame his face, and a few tufts of hair stick out at the back of his head. His skin is surprisingly tanned for somebody who works inside a laboratory. He typically wears a black-and-gray shirt, black pants, and black shoes, the first two mostly hidden by a white lab coat. A purple cravat is fixed to his collar.
Personality: Xehanort is at default generally polite and courteous, and will do his best to remain so with most people, despite what he may think of them. He relaxes more easily in the company of friends and will be more inclined to talk, especially if he’s in a good mood. Socially, Xehanort can be on the awkward side—he feels more at home in a laboratory than he does at social functions and he knows it. Though he’s perfectly comfortable with friends and family, he easily gets nervous when speaking publicly or with strangers. Knowing this, he is fully ready and willing to abdicate the throne should he ever inherit it (being the current heir to the royal family).

On the other hand, Xehanort has a stubborn streak that shows itself most clearly in his work. Once he has an objective, he will follow through on it as best as he can. He likes to be as thorough as possible and hates leaving things (especially research) undone when they can be finished or perfected, and he will pursue a project to the end unless he sees that it’s useless or somebody he respects tells him to back off, and even then he will only do so reluctantly, constantly taunted by the loose end. Despite that, Xehanort does have his personal limits and morals. Though he refuses to believe what can’t be proven, when conclusive proof that he should or shouldn’t be doing something is laid out in front of his eyes he will eventually stop, even if he has to force himself to.
Abilities/Strengths: Xehanort is highly intelligent as well as a quick learner. He’s been taught in a number of different areas, and his apprenticeship has given him years of experience and hands-on learning in the sciences as well as a familiarity with machinery of all kinds. Xehanort has also received basic training in archery and combat using a sword and staff. He has a long way to expertise in terms of physical fighting, though he has shown potential using the swallow, a long, sticklike weapon with a blade on both sides and a grip in between.
Weapons: None that he owns or carries, though he does know how to use a few weapons.
Weaknesses: Xehanort focuses more on academics and research than he does on his combat, so his combat skills leave something to be desired. He also has very little knowledge of weaponless fighting and would be unable to defend himself for long without one.

Fighting aside, Xehanort also is easily caught up in a task to a point where he ignores virtually everything but his job. He’s known to skip the occasional meal when busy on the verge of a breakthrough on some project, and in a few, particularly intense cases, he’s had to be coaxed into leaving the laboratory to get a bite. Because much of his childhood was spent as a scientist’s apprentice, Xehanort isn’t always the most comfortable in social situations either, and is easily unnerved when facing a large or strange audience.
History: When he was young, Xehanort was found amnesiac in a village near Radiant Garden, by the ruler of Radiant Garden, Lord Ansem, and he was assumed to be the only survivor of a village fallen victim to a war between the Light and Dark. He accompanied Lord Ansem to another ruined village, where Ansem found another group of orphaned children. All the refugee children were taken to live in the Hollow Bastion stronghold, where he and another refugee, Kairi, were adopted into the royal family. Another refugee about Xehanort’s age, Ienzo, was taken in by one of Lord Ansem’s bodyguards and apprentices, Eleaus.

Xehanort and Ienzo both exhibited remarkable potential and were soon apprenticed to Lord Ansem himself, a respected scientist as well as a ruler. Lord Ansem was curious about the darkness inside people’s hearts; Xehanort was curious about the memories he could no longer reach. Hoping to find some way to discover his hidden memories, Xehanort volunteered to be a subject in their experiments.

They worked like that, experimenting on Xehanort, until a mouse king, King Mickey, from another world came in a strange ship and urged Lord Ansem to stop what they were doing for the safety of all the worlds. Lord Ansem quickly ordered his six apprentices to cease experimentation despite all protests. Forced to abandon two years’ worth of research and robbed of his chance to unlock his past, Xehanort was affected by the orders the most and became depressed.

A few years later, Xehanort began to try and resume experimentation on the heart, this time in secret. Without the resources and authorization of official research, however, Xehanort’s results were unreliable and his research was rendered useless. With much effort, however, he managed to develop a harmless scanner that revealed the contents of a person’s Heart.

By this time Kairi had grown, having received the same teaching Xehanort had, and become one of Lord Ansem’s apprentices as well, and soon he asked for her help as well as Ienzo’s. Together the three of them enjoyed more success, testing various people in Radiant Garden and coming to some interesting conclusions.

Though their tests were harmless, people in the Garden began to disappear mysteriously. King Mickey returned, telling everybody that the same creatures from the war were highly concentrated in Radiant Garden—specifically, Hollow Bastion. Not long after that, Lord Ansem discovered what Xehanort, Kairi, and Ienzo were up to, and they quickly became the main suspects for the disappearances.

Thankfully, despite his anger Lord Ansem was willing to give them a chance to present their findings explain themselves to the Royal Court before a final verdict was reached. However, Kairi disappeared suddenly in the middle of their presentation. The Court was at first wary when the remaining two denied all knowledge of where she had gone, but as time went on and their trial continued the it looked like their case might not be so bleak after all. Then, in the middle of an explanation of his construction of the scanner, Xehanort was taken to Econtra.

The History Behind Xehanort's History (AKA in which the mun documents part of the insane outline she made up for Birth by Sleep and the resulting backstory behind Xehanort's past): Fourteen years ago, Master Xehanort was once of approximately a dozen Keyblade Masters chosen by a mysterious unknown power (the same power that guides Sora in the beginning of the games) to help preserve the order of the worlds. He was old but skilled even among the Masters, and when the balance between light and darkness began shifting the same powers that chose him as a Keyblade Master approached him with a new proposal. He had a choice to make, and what that choice was would affect the future of the worlds.

The choice itself was simple. He could choose to sleep, letting the struggle between light and dark continue; eventually one would become victorious over the other, and meanwhile Master Xehanort would gain the powers to potentially become a supreme Keyblade Master who would have the power to do far greater things than the rest. (This had its risks: things could easily go wrong and the world would become turbulent and chaotic.) The other choice was to remain awake and continue on, maintaining the balance as well as the stability of the worlds.

Master Xehanort chose to remain awake, and he was spirited off to train in preparation for the coming war between the light and darkness. Alarmed by his disappearance, another Keyblade Master sent his three apprentices (Terra, Aqua, and Ven) off in search of him. These three, Master Xehanort was told, were to be his allies in the fight to put an end to the fighting between light and darkness. Done training, he began luring each apprentice across worlds and indirectly testing and training them, ignoring all but a few of their questions until they had all gathered in Radiant Garden after a few months, where he informed the three apprentices of what was about to happen.

The war began not long after that, and they set to work trying to quell each side. With the other Keyblade Masters’ help, they succeeded and managed to subdue and defeat most of the strange new creatures each side had summoned up, but not without loss: Master Xehanort, Terra, and Ven survived, but Aqua and a few other Keyblade Masters were killed during the war. The war caused no small amount of destruction on the worlds it was fought on as well. Radiant Garden, a major battleground for the war, was especially devastated.

After the war had ended, a new revelation came via the powers behind the Keyblade Masters: the war was not over yet, not entirely. It would never be, as light and darkness continued their eternal clash, but there would always be Keyblade Masters to fight somewhere. Meanwhile, they needed to stay ready for the second wave—at least until more with the potential to become Keyblade Masters and wielders presented themselves.

Master Xehanort knew that he was old; when the time came again, he couldn’t be sure that he would be strong enough to fight anymore. He needed a way to keep his strength somehow, and while his solution was risky neither he nor the apprentices could think of no other way to do so. Master Xehanort went to Radiant Garden, de-aging himself to a young boy and consequentially sealing off all the memories he had. He would no longer remember his past, but he was still a Keyblade Master, and a Keyblade Master he would become again when the time to fight resurfaced. Of course, he never counted on the fact that as the time approached he would be pulled into a different war.
